Responsible-play limits and self-exclusion

Responsible-play tools work best when set before a session. They are guardrails, not a way to make a game profitable.

Tool What it controls What to check
Deposit limit New money added during a period Whether decreases apply immediately and increases are delayed
Spend or wager limit Amount entered or wagered Whether bonus or promotional play counts
Loss limit Net loss under the operator’s formula How wins, refunds, and pending entries are calculated
Time reminder Session duration Whether it interrupts play or only displays a notice
Cooldown or timeout Temporary account access Which products and payments remain available
Self-exclusion Access for a longer stated period Scope, duration, reinstatement, and marketing suppression

A deposit cap alone does not limit recycled winnings, existing balance, or rapid low-cost entries. Combine it with time and spend controls.

A cooldown is usually temporary and account specific. Self-exclusion is intended for a stronger, longer block. A state-regulated internet gaming program may cover participating licensees in that state, while an operator exclusion may cover only one brand or corporate group.

Skill apps, sweepstakes sites, tribal operations, lotteries, and charitable bingo may not share the same registry. Ask the program exactly which products and related brands it covers.

The regulator pages for New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Michigan describe their current tools. Use the state matrix to locate the regulator for another market.

Do not use a VPN or another person’s account to bypass exclusion. Ask banks and payment providers about available gambling blocks, and remove saved payment methods from devices where practical.

Write down:

  • maximum cash deposit for the week or month;
  • maximum cash entries per session;
  • maximum pending contest exposure;
  • end time and number of rounds;
  • behaviors that trigger an immediate stop;
  • a person or service to contact if the limits fail.

Review actual account history against the plan. Do not count promotional balances as recovered cash.

Stop and seek support when play involves chasing losses, borrowing, hiding transactions, missing work or sleep, conflict, selling possessions, using multiple accounts, or repeated failure to keep limits. These are not fixed by a better bingo strategy.
